General overview of design education and training provision

Design skills development and training is met at three major levels: Further Education, Higher education –including Bachelors, Masters and PhD levels – and Continuous Professional Development or Life-long Learning. However, EDTI’s research indicates that provision in design education and training varies across the EU countries audited. It is important to note that whilst nearly half of the designers practicing in the UK do not have a degree in design, most of the designers surveyed by EDTI possessed a degree and the European trend is towards a degree-led profession.
